With the weather warming and days lengthening, our thoughts are turning to the fab theatre performances we have lined up this summer.
If you've not yet experienced outdoor theatre on the Bowling Green in the heart of our gorgeous Garden... then you might like to give it a try. No two performances are the same, because of the weather, the audience and our wonderful performers - it's no wonder we have a loyal audience who return again and again,
Tickets are now on sale for the charismatic Handlebards who return in June, travelling the country by bike and performing Shakespeare as they go. This year they are touring Twelfth Night (16 & 17 June) and Romeo & Juliet (27 June), starting at 6.30pm on each date. Early bird booking discounts apply until April - so don't delay. Visit our events page for more info and how to book.
We then present The Three Musketeers over the August Bank Holiday, on Sunday 26 and Monday 27 August at 3.30pm. Performed by local theatre company IK Productions, you will be taken on a whistle-stop tour of France with three daring heros who busy themselves saving the day as they travel the length and breadth of the country. Expect plenty of swashbuckling, sword-fights and subterfuge in this fast-paced and quick-witted performance. This show is suitable for all ages. Visit our events page for more info and how to book.
Some frequently-asked questions... You're welcome to bring a picnic to all of these events - though do beware that you will need to carry it down there, and the route is steep. Picnickers with blankets will be at the front and those with deck chairs will be seated towards the rear of the performance area. We are ok with well-behaved dogs which can be trusted not to disturb the show and pilfer from other picnics! Regrettably the Bowling Green is very tricky to get to for those with mobility difficulties. Gates open an hour in advance of the show for you to get down to the Bowling Green and set up.
