We're delighted to have the "Bardettes" with us this weekend! They arrived fresh from Arlingham - well, fresh-ish - it's an enormous hill from down there by the River Severn - and delighted audiences last night with their version of "As You Like It". Funny, creative and energetic, this is Shakespeare revisited for our time.
So - if you've no plans - bring a picnic and come and enjoy an evening of merriment in the Garden as the world’s first cycling theatre company, The Handlebards, will be stopping off to perform Shakespeare’s As You Like It. We’re thrilled to have the companies’ all female troupe join us for the first time this year. The male troupe have become a firm favourite and a highlight in the Rococo Garden event calendar and we know we can expect the same riotous amounts of energy, a fair old whack of chaos and a great deal of laughter from the ladies.
The four-strong female troupe will cycle 1,500 miles on handcrafted Pashley bicycles from London to Edinburgh and then from Devon to London. The fit lady actors travel with their set, props and costumes in tow, and will set up on the Bowling Green right in the heart of the historic Rococo Garden. Guests are warmly invited to enjoy the stunning Garden prior to the performance.
The performance starts at 6.30pm, with gates opening at 5.30pm for picnics in the Garden. Well-behaved dogs are welcome and children under 16 go free. Tickets are only £15 in advance (£17 on the door) and are available from www.handlebards.com. The weather looks ok on the forecast - you might wantt to bring a chair and a blanket though, just in case!
