Like many charities, our Garden relies on income from visitors to be able to restore and protect the Garden for the benefit of the public, as we have been doing for over 30 years.
The start of this year has been challenging. February was the wettest on record, with our peak snowdrop visiting period hit by three storms over consecutive weekends. This has caused a significant drop both in visitor numbers and income during what ought to have been our busiest time of year.
This worrying start is now being followed by coronavirus, which we anticipate will have a further negative impact on our income.
The therapeutic nature of the Garden to both physical and mental well-being is well recognised. The Garden offers a large, outdoor space making social distancing a viable prospect. We want to make sure that people can continue to visit and enjoy its charm and benefits, for as long as possible, especially during these difficult and unsettling times.
