This September, Painswick Rococo Garden and Exedra Nursery are joining forces for a five-day Bulb Bonanza, bringing together expert advice, bulb planting in the garden and an exceptional collection of spring-flowering bulbs.

 

Whether you are a beginner looking to plant your first bulbs or a seasoned gardener searching for something unusual, Bulb Bonanza offers the chance to learn from experienced horticulturists, discover professional planting techniques and start planning next spring’s display.

 

Help plant next spring’s display

Weekdays,11am – 12.30pm

Visitors are invited to plant a daffodil bulb in the heart of the garden. Each bulb will join Painswick Rococo Garden’s collection, helping to create a spectacular display next spring.

Bulb Talks – Discover the wonderful world of bulbs! 

Daily, 2pm 

The Rococo team will share their expert tips on choosing and planting bulbs, along with fascinating stories about their history and how they have shaped gardens through the centuries.

Bulb Lasagne Masterclass

Friday 25 September, 11am – 1pm

Exedra Nursery owner Julie Dolphin will lead the highlight of Bulb Bonanza Week, a hands-on Bulb Lasagne Masterclass, showing you how to layer bulbs for a spectacular succession of spring colour.

A ‘Bulb Lasagne’ is a clever planting technique that creates continuous colour in a container by planting different varieties of bulbs at different depths. As each layer flowers in succession, the pot can provide weeks of spring colour and interest.

Julie will demonstrate the technique step by step, covering how to prepare your container, which bulbs work well together and how to care for your planting to get the best results.

The session will include advice on a range of spring bulbs, including tulips, daffodils, crocuses and muscari.

Tea and cake are also included.

Discover Bulbs Beyond the Ordinary: Hand-Selected from Holland

For gardeners already planning next year’s displays, Exedra Nursery will be offering a specially selected collection of premium spring-flowering bulbs during Bulb Bonanza.

The bulbs have been hand-selected by Dutch grower René Zijerveld, who grows many himself and sources others from exceptional bulb farms across Holland. Exedra Nursery has worked with René for almost a decade and the quality and variety of the bulbs continues to impress.

This is a collection that goes beyond the usual garden centre selection, with unusual and harder-to-find varieties sitting alongside much-loved favourites.

 Among the highlights returning this year is the dramatic Tulip ‘Black Parrot’, alongside varieties including ‘Carnaval de Nice’, ‘Estella Rijnveld’, ‘Foxtrot’ and ‘Charming Lady’.

There are bulbs for every garden, from large borders to a single patio pot, with plenty to tempt gardeners looking to try something new.

 

Daffodils beyond the ordinary

The collection also includes some particularly interesting daffodils, including Narcissus papyraceus ‘Ziva’.

Unlike the familiar outdoor daffodils that herald the arrival of spring, paperwhites can be grown indoors and are prized for their strong fragrance. ‘Ziva’ is a multi-headed variety that can create a beautiful and highly scented display in the home around Christmas.
