How to find us
Painswick Rococo Garden is just a short stroll from the heart of the picturesque Cotswold village of Painswick.
As part of our ongoing efforts to respond to the challenges of climate change, the Rococo Garden Trust is committed to promoting sustainable travel for our staff, volunteers and visitors. We support green commuting initiatives, including the Cycle to Work scheme for our team.
To help us measure our progress on our sustainability journey, you may be asked how you travelled to the Garden. Thank you for supporting our efforts to protect the environment.
On foot: Painswick Rococo Garden is just a short stroll from the scenic Cotswold Way. Why not make it a memorable stop on your walk? Pause to enjoy a fresh-ground coffee and cake or a light lunch and take in the charm of this unique 18th-century garden. You’ll leave feeling refreshed and ready to continue your journey. Muddy boots are always welcome!
By bike: Cyclists are very welcome at Painswick Rococo Garden. Thanks to generous support from the Life Cycle UK scheme and Stroud District Council, our car park is equipped with three conveniently located, secure bike racks, making it easy for cyclists to park safely and enjoy their visit.
By train: Our nearest train station is Stroud, approximately 5 miles from the Garden. For planning your journey, the Trainline website is a helpful resource. From Stroud, local bus services can bring you closer to the Garden. Details are provided below.
By bus: We’re fortunate to be located on the Stagecoach 66 bus route, which runs hourly from Cheltenham to Stroud, Monday to Saturday. The Gyde House bus stop is just a short walk downhill from our entrance, making it a convenient option for visitors.
On Sundays, the Stagecoach 166 service runs between Cheltenham and Stroud. The nearest stop is at the bottom of Pullens Road, approximately half a mile from the Garden. Follow Pullens Road uphill and onto Gloucester Road, then continue straight until you see the entrance to Painswick Rococo Garden on your left. The walk takes around 10–15 minutes.

By car: To find the Garden, enter GL6 6TH into your satnav or follow the brown tourism signs from all major approach routes. Painswick Rococo Garden is just a 15-minute drive from Junction 11a of the M5, and parking is free for all visitors. During the Snowdrop season, visitors must book tickets in advance so we can control numbers and ensure there is parking available.
Where possible, we strongly encourage car sharing. It helps ease pressure on our parking facilities, reduces traffic on the roads, lowers individual carbon footprints and decreases overall fuel consumption.
Electric vehicles: As part of our commitment to sustainability, we plan to install two EV chargers for visitor use soon. Currently, we are still in the planning stages and will update this page as soon as more information becomes available.
In the meantime, the nearest public charging stations are located at the nearest Tesco Superstore and Primrose Vale Farm Shop. Please note that we cannot take responsibility for the availability or status of these external facilities.

If you’re concerned about accessibility, you’re very welcome to come and have a look at the Garden before purchasing a ticket – please speak to the person at the Welcome Desk on arrival.
The steepest slopes all have handrails, and there are 45 benches dotted around the Garden for when you need to rest. The Garden isn’t suitable for motorised scooters, bikes or children’s scooters.
